I'm Jonathan, the leader of the group. The main job of our group is to promote Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve as a tourist spot. My group was very cooperative and they work in a very efficient manner. They were able to plan and execute it well. They were also very initiative as they do not need me to tell them what to do apart from their job scope. It was a job well done and I am proud of my group.

I am also the scout for this group and my role is the same as ka jie. The most difficult part for this activity was the way to get there. There is only a few buses that are able to take us there and there is still a walk to add on. Walking is probably the most effective way of travelling around that nature reserve as little human interaction are made to keep the nature alive and more of a "nature" reserve. Walking did not only helped to get us there but it also let us observe the nature around us with much more opportunities.

I enjoy this project as it gives me a chance to interact with nature at the end of my fingertips. This allowed me to learn more about life of the animals in the nature. It shows how they react to certain things. Most importantly, we learned that not only teamwork is the key to success. Patience pays too =D

I am the timekeeper/photographer for the group. I settle the time, date and place where the group meets. I found this role easy to handle as the only difficult part would be contacting the people. Unfortunately, 1 of our group member was out of the country and couldn't be contacted. Another member that I had difficulty contacting was phuay hua as her phone was spoiled.
The second role, the photographer, was fun as we seek out the different parts in sungei buloh to take photos. Despite the scorching sun, our group manage to get to the place in time. It was then we found out we were covered in sweat and the thirst was unbearable as we walked on foot. The only part that I felt I didn't do well is that I could not upload the photos into the blog as my computer had problems then. I had to pass all the photos to JiaJun( our Scout)by msn and requested him to help me do the job.
I felt that this trip taught me how to manage a group and settle problems by ourselves such as finding the way to the place, etc.

yours sincerely,

I was the scout for this group which my job is to help my team to find ways to go to our respective place and finding place for our group to meet. I believe that my job quite difficult as I have to find where is Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve and which bus or mrt to get that location. However I am fortunate to have another team member who is also a scout to make my job easier and faster.
I think that one great difficulties we faced is the way to go to Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve which we have problems of what bus and mrt to take as the place is quite deserted. We are quite unlucky as the day we go there is not weekends which no bus will go directly there so we have to walk 20 minute to get there.
I enjoy this project as it give me an opportunity to learn about Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve which there are lots of rare bird species which I never know.I also learnt about the importance of teamwork which it will help make alot of things easier and faster than working alone.

I played the HTML editor in this project. It is mainly about uploading the pictures, music and background. I am also in charge of looking for and verifying the information and the creation of the blog. I felt that my contribution is significant to the success of the project. If the information are not cross-reference with other sources, it may be wrong or inaccurate.

I had problems with the background at first, i need to find the resolution that would fit nicely. The trip to the wetland reserve had a big problem in transport. However, i managed to fix the background after a few tries. The transport to the wetland reserve was solved by the group, we go on feet for a short while.

I learnt that html is not an easy thing and require lots of time. Teamwork is very important to get work done fast. I also learnt that Singapore has a wetland reserve that is special in its own way. The project is a great experience for me and helps me to understand Singapore a bit more.

I am the photographer of this group. I believe that although my contributions are minor but it’s vital for the success of this project as photos brightens up the blog and more importantly a picture is worth a thousand words.
The one big obstacle we faced were the ONLY bus that reaches there only operates on Sunday. On weekdays and Saturday the bus doesn’t stops directly at the wetland reserve. So we have no choice but to walk under the hot sun for about 20mins to get to the reserve. Luckily I wasn’t alone and we chat and joke through the 20mins walk without feeling the heat from the sun.
Through this project I have learned that working as a team to complete a task is way easier than doing it alone and how to post a post in a blog.

Look out for them!
This section is based on my experience.
Crocodiles
The newspaper published that two resident crocodiles are seen at the reserve. However, it is hard to spot them as they bend very well with the waters and surrounding, i had not spotted any of them.
Otters
Otters are also very hard to spot, if i am not wrong, they only appear during high tide. This group of otters are Smooth Otters, they feed on clams or shells. Try looking around the shore with lots of shells or clams.
Mudskippers
These cute little creatures appear on mudflat during low tide, they are in numbers. It is hard to spot because its skin color is nearly identical to the mud. Try looking out for bubbles in muddy water or 'moving mud'.

Some tips by me (from experience):
  • Do not feed any animals, birds or insects.
  • Do not litter or remove anything from the reserve, the reserve is a protected area.
  • Try not to use camera with flash.
  • Set phone to silent mode or off it, ringing of the phone may scare off the animals.
  • Track shoes are best suit for the trail if you want to have a long walk.
  • Bring your own drinking water, drinks from the cafeteria are expensive.
  • If you are planning to do bird-watching or to spot some animals, wear some clothes that can bend in the surrounding. Dark Green, Brown or dim colors.
  • If you met up with some dangerous animals(like monitor lizard) on the path, do not panic as they are more afraid of you. Just wait for them to leave the path or you might want to take a photo of it (but normally while taking out the camera, they run away. Shy?).

Bird Watching
Make sure you keep an eye open on the mudflats around, you will be ensured to see birds feeding on the worms in the mud. Plovers and sandpipers can be spotted easily, these birds feast in flocks. If you are lucky enough, you may spot some rare species like the Egrets, which can be seen in migratory seasons. Seasonal from September to March. They feed and roost on the mudflats in the Reserve. Here is a picture of it:

History
Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve is actually found by a group of avid birdwatchers from the then Malayan Nature Society (Singapore Branch) in 1986.
